About TEDxKassel

Our goal is to organize a TEDx event that is not only a place to discover, discuss and advance new ideas, but one that serves as the starting point to establish Kassel as the new center of sustainability. TED and TEDx events are famous for their short, concise and compelling contributions, designed to reach a broad audience. We are inviting regional and international speakers to Kassel to give impulses for a more sustainable life.

TEDxKassel thereby serves as a platform for gathering activists with wide-ranging backgrounds in politics, business, civil society and science. Additionally, another one-hundred guests will have the opportunity to participate in this event and to bring their own ideas to the center of the success stories of tomorrow. TEDxKassel 2019 will not only be the first TEDx event in Kassel, but also the first of its kind in the world. This conference is only the prelude to a forum, aiming for thought leadership in the field of sustainability.

We believe that through collaboration of key players and through networking, we can address the greatest challenges of humanity. Located in the heart of Europe, Kassel and the Northern Hesse region can contribute to the sustainable change spreading across the continent and beyond.

Our team consists of highly motivated students of the University of Kassel. We deliberately chose team members from a variety of fields in order to benefit from their diverse and interdisciplinary perspectives. From nanostructure sciences to visual communication, from economics to engineering, each of us offers a unique viewpoint. Whether through our socio-political commitment, through international experience or through study visits and work experience, we are convinced that we can act beyond the borders of Germany.

About TEDx = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

About TED

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 30 years ago, TED has grown to support its mission with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes or less. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.

The annual TED Conference takes place each spring in Vancouver, British Columbia. TED’s media initiatives include TED.com, where new TED Talks are posted daily; TED Translators, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed. TED has established The Audacious Project that takes a collaborative approach to funding ideas with the potential to create change at thrilling scale; TEDx, which supports individuals or groups in hosting local, self- organized TED-style events around the world, and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
